That was very poignantly written. I have no idea how it would feel to be suddenly on your own. I imagine it would be scary, sad, liberating, lonely, nice, not nice, etc. etc.
That brought out a lot of emotional memories and empathy for the character. I can totally identify with several moments in the story ! Your words paint a very clear picture.
